Check the province, not just the island name
Koh Chang here means the island in Ranong province, not Koh Chang in Trat. Include “Ranong” in map searches and transport enquiries, and verify the piers on both the mainland and island.
Choose a beach before a room
On Koh Phayam, different bays mean different surroundings and transfer distances. Ao Yai has accommodation and beach activities; compare any chosen bay with the food options and pickup point you will actually use. Ask the property how to continue from the landing pier.
Ask practical accommodation questions
Check air-conditioning or electricity arrangements, hot water, connectivity, extra beds and pier transfers, especially for remote work or family stays. Ask each property about children and maximum room occupancy; one hotel’s policy does not apply to the whole island.
The return boat matters just as much
Before arranging a flight or long-distance bus, confirm that day’s return boat and the operator’s weather policy. Allow for the onward road transfer. For a critical departure, consider returning to a mainland base ahead of time.
